A new home for Carinthian heritage – encounters, education, conversation and confrontation through the Carinthian state collections.

A new home for Carinthia’s heritage - the new museum as an experience.

143 years after its foundation stone was laid, the Carinthian State Museum in Klagenfurt’s Museumgasse will open for the second time, following a complete overhaul that quite literally left no stone unturned, both in terms of architecture and of content. The vision was to create a new home for Carinthia’s heritage, a type of Carinthian universal museum that both epitomises and explores the concept of change. The transformation of living spaces, the archaeology of change and the transmutation of ideas are the central themes of the new, reflected in its contents and its communication priorities. A place of encounter, education, conversation, confrontation. But most of all, a new museum that is also a true experience.
