Archaeological Park Magdalensberg

The Roman town on the Magdalensberg is among the largest excavation sites in the eastern Alps and has been the subject of archaeological investigation since 1948. The archaeology park today comprises four hectares and shows the most important areas of the former settlement. On this terrain that is steeped in history, you will encounter the “Youth of Magdalensberg” and many other finds that testify to life as it was 2,000 years ago.

The Virunum amphitheatre with its sanctuary for the goddess Nemesis dates back to approx. 100AD and accommodated around 4,000 spectators for gladiator games and animal baiting.

May 1st to Oct 26th: Tuesday to Sunday and public holiday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., July-August: Tuesday to Sunday and public holiday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
