Kyrgyzstan
... centered in the Middle East a completely different fauna
Kyrgyzstzan
In 2010, a mixed expedition with experts from various entomological fields in Austria went to the central part of Kyrgyzstan and especially to the southwest of the country.
Extreme altitudes, landscapes scraggy from overgrazing but nonetheless extremely diverse, and barely known fauna greeted the group. The accessibility of many areas was only possible with off-road vehicles. Even though the weather was not exactly good, a considerable number of species of various small butterfly groups could still be collected for genetic screening. There were regular strong rainstorms and for an average altitude of over 2000 meters, June was perhaps too early in the season for a higher number of species.
Of the whole yield, Eulamprotes wieseriella was scientifically described as a new species. Also these data of the kärnten.museum makes up one of the puzzle pieces for the further research in the fauna of central Asia.
