MIRROR...MIRROR
in room 3

CORNELIA MITTENDORFER
We are fragmentally mirrored in a bee brain that has been enlarged a thousandfold. Can we recognize ourselves as part of this planet? Because the central question is, how can we live together not only with other people but also with all creatures with whom we share the planet and who share the planet with us? Intelligence is clearly not a question of the size of the brain. In the line of invertebrates, the bee brain is comparably and uniquely as highly developed as that of the humans in the line of the vertebrates. Honeybees also have a central brain and there use the same principle of information brokering using neurones and synapse. The small size of the brain (approximately 1 mm3) is compensated by thickly packed neurons, shorter channels and so faster rates of transmission.

FOLDED FIGURES MIRROR
MICHAEL WEGERER
The work „Folded Figures Mirror“ takes up the idea of perception and reflection of a work of art, and invites the viewers to change their perspectives several times in order to explore the object from various sides. The reflection in the mirror objects becomes fragmentarily deconstructed and put together anew. Colours change from light to dark, forms jump back and forth, fine lines, delicate mirrored patterns accentuate the reliefs. This opens new perspectives and - depending on the different locations - other perception spaces become visible.

TOO SEXY
CORNELIA KÖNIG
The work concerns the qualities of mirrors, glass and humans on several levels.
Glass on its own is a sexy material. It is smooth, perfect, and when it is made into mirrors, you can observe yourself in it. When you look at yourself in a mirror, you can perhaps ask yourself:
Am I sexy? Or rather the negative, am I not sexy? Or maybe even, “Am I too sexy?” Or a simple statement … yes, I’m too sexy … for whom?
One can also imagine that the material (glass or mirror) talks to itself.
However, observing the order of the individual components, one could start to ponder, ruminate. The upper ellipse is made of black glass with neon lettering in orange. It is mounted at the place where the head of a human should actually be found and we could see into the eyes. But this ellipse of black glass does mirror someone, but no colours can be recognised. And besides that, the garish letters are blinding.
The large circle is a mirror with its own small colourful shimmering glass dots and, additionally, there are many small drill holes. Through these we can see the wall behind it, very small, but still visible. Below on the right, one can read the word “sexy” in purple lettering. The mirror actually is unfit for a whole body check by the observer to see if the clothes sit right, if one is dashing enough, if the makeup is right.
Thus we listen to the mirror, the glass, while it is talking to itself and is really enjoying it. They both are so enthusiastic that colourful glass air blisters develop and float up along the wall.

PSYCHE
ANGELA HAREITER
My mirror idea goes back to the production of the kind of mirror that had a real boom in the Seventies: I mean the “psyche”, that is, a mirror with a winged frame, mostly as a component of the master bedroom. My psyche has both a psychoanalytical and an archeological dimension, in that in my folding mirror arrangement I actually call up a Cyclades idol, a female prehistoric sculpture that interests me very much. In addition, there is a diagram engraved on the mirror from my series of earth souls (“The Elements of the Earth are tiny”, 2021). Here, the psyches of the observers meet the earth - a remarkable process.

STILL ME
ANDREA VILHENA
We see ourselves in a world increasingly dominated by the media, increasingly in the mirror of the media. Our selfperception is more and more influenced by the way we (re-)present ourselves and others in the media. There is no freeze image anymore, no intermission. This work calls us to create moments of reflection, in which we take time to observe and reflect on ourselves and our social environment.

LOOK AT ME
NINA HERZOG
A pistol, oversized.
The fragility of the material.
It seems to float, light as a feather
The barrel like that of a cannon.
How many people own and use pistols?
Professionally and privately. Legally and illegally.
Nearly forgot that gun shops were considered “relevant to
the system” until recently.
Desire for protection.
Desire for power?
COME CLOSER
Is the magazine filled?
With what?
The grip dissolves.
No finger on the trigger.
Want to risk a look in the barrel?
LOOK AT ME
In front of and behind the pistol. At the same time.
Threatened and confronted with the possibility of one’s own
abomination.
“Humans are the most atrocious animals.
No one but them inflict pain
for their own enjoyment,” said Nietzsche.
A glance at the news is enough,
Weapons are multifaceted.
Psychological and physical abuse.
As commonplace as cartons.
Transience. One’s own. That of the others,
What are we capable of (in exceptional situations)?

LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK
MAX WIEDEMANN
This work of art / neon installation with the words “Love you to the moon and back“ contains a deep and profound message of love and affection. The expression itself has become popular in recent years and is used often to express the extent of love to someone. While it seems difficult to measure love in quantifiable concepts, the expression implies that the love of a person can overcome long distances and is itself immeasurable.
The moon as a symbol has taken on various meanings in various cultures. It is often connected to romance, mystery and the breadth of the universe. By using the moon as a point of reference, the work suggests that the love it expresses is unlimited and enduring.
