In recent decades, archaeology has
developed into a comprehensive
cultural science. Archaeological
research increasingly focuses on
medieval and modern archaeological
finds. Contemporary history is also
becoming a focus of interest. In
Carinthia, excavations at the Loibl
concentration camp and the
Waidmannsdorf/Klagenfurt labour
camp are notable examples.
During archaeological excavations
for the Koralm Railway in Styria,
the foundations of the Hengsberg/
Schrötten Reich Labour Service camp,
built in 1940, and numerous finds
from the Nazi era were documented.
On the Carinthian side, the remains
of a late medieval-modern homestead,
located north of the road to St.
Radegund, were discovered near Eis.
Among other things, the stone cellar
and stone staircase were preserved.
These findings were also documented.
