Special Guest Heidi Horten Collection
Picasso · Warhol · Baselitz
About the exhibition
With the Picasso • Warhol • Baselitz exhibition, the kärnten.museum is hosting
a selection of top-class works of art from the Heidi Horten Collection in
Vienna. Over several decades, Heidi Goëss-Horten (1941–2022) collected
paintings and sculptures from classical modernism to contemporary art for
her collection. The spectrum of works ranges from Pablo Picasso, one of the
most influential artists of the 20th century, via Andy Warhol, a representative
of US pop art, to Erwin Wurm, one of the most successful Austrian artists
today. The Carinthian artists Theres Cassini, Helga Druml and Gudrun Kampl represent independent positions.
A selection of handicraft objects and valuables from the 18th to the early
20th century, which Heidi Goëss-Horten also collected, are a special feature
of the exhibition. In addition to outstanding individual pieces, the focus
here is on sewing equipment, also with a view to the haute couture dresses
on display from the Parisian fashion houses Christian Dior, Jean Patou and Jean-Louis Scherrer. Heidi Goëss-Horten made an initial selection of her
dresses based on figurines and fabric samples that had been sent to her by
the fashion houses and that can also be seen in the exhibition. The dresses
were made in Paris, where Heidi Goëss-Horten also traveled for fittings.
